People of color are more likely to seek assistance from informal sources such as neighbors, family, the clergy, and native healers than non-people of color are (Helms & Cook, 1999; Sue & Sue, 1999; Utsey et al., 2000).
Our specific social change contribution is through positive youth development (PYD). Our mental health strategy is based on a "transformative mental health" framework and includes both holistic practices and meditative disciplines. Thanks to this, we can now tailor evidence-based approaches to the communities we serve. For service users from black, indigenous, or diverse backgrounds (BIPOC), holistic practices blend the finest elements of conventional mental health care with complementary and alternative modalities to provide preventive, all-encompassing care. Remedies for the mind-body connection are part of complementary and alternative assistance.
